At 3pm, on the 2nd of December 2016, mx2.spameater.co.nz released its queue of spam related email due to a network issue affecting its ability to contact the Layer3 quarantine server.

We will be performing a resource upgrade on Filecloud services

Filecloud will be out of service for 15 minutes while Filecloud services are shut down and upgraded. Any changes made to files during this time will sync once the service returns to normal.

Unplanned: mx1.spameater.co.nz outage – Resolved

At 7:58am, our primary spam filter piranha/mx1 stopped processing email.

*Description / Impact Expected*

Due to a firewall DDos rule, traffic was halted on the primary spam filter due to a large influx of traffic. The DDos rules prevented additional connections being accepted. Mail should have been automatically delivered to the secondary spam filter.

DDos filters were disabled on this host temporarily until we find a permanent solution.

Planned: Internet outages 10th May – 14th May

Our upstream provider will be performing extensive network maintenance
(Software Upgrades) to various parts of their network

*Description / Impact Expected*

Please be advised that all Internet and data services within New Zealand
will be impacted during the outage windows. There may be several outages
each night until work is completed.

Affected services:

  • Private Cloud
  • Shared Cloud
  • Filecloud

Additional Notes:

Carrier has been performing this upgrade over 3 weeks for 4 consecutive
nights at a time, all work will conclude on Friday the 13th of May.

Primary Spam Filter Reboot (piranha.spameater.co.nz) 28/04/2016

We will be rebooting the primary spam filter at 2:55pm on 28/04/2016 due to performance issues. Please ensure you have a secondary MX configured for cobra.spameater.co.nz

The outage should be no longer than 15 minutes

Update: This has now been resolved

Cloud Office Maintenance

At 10pm tonight (19/02/2016) we will be applying a patch to fix performance issues experienced on our Cloud Office platform. Servers will be rebooted after this has taken place. The outage should be no longer than 15 minutes.

Layer3 Christmas Maintenance Period

During the Christmas break, Layer3 will be performing extensive maintenance on our cloud infrastructure.

The changes are listed as follows:

General Changes

  • Installing new cloud servers – No Downtime
  • Upgrading cloud storage systems – No Downtime
  • Installation of gas based fire supression system – No Downtime
  • Upgrading of core router and switches – Micro outage (5 seconds)
  • Upgrading of VMWare 5.1 to 5.5 – No Downtime

Private Cloud Changes

  • No changes planned

Cloud Office Changes

  • Exchange Mail server upgrade – 2 hour outage. Customers will be notified.

Maintenance will begin on the 28th of December 2013 and continue through to the 5th of January 2014.
