Cove Data Protection, from N-able, provides Layer3 with a modern platform for protecting servers, workstations and Microsoft 365 data. It brings backup, recovery and management together in a single cloud-based platform, helping us reduce complexity while giving our customers a reliable way to recover when something goes wrong.

Backup is only useful if you can recover

Backup should not simply be about creating another copy of your data. The real measure is how quickly and reliably that data can be recovered after hardware failure, accidental deletion, ransomware or another disruptive event.

Cove is designed with recovery at its core. Its cloud-first architecture allows Layer3 to centrally manage protection across customer environments while keeping backup data separated from the systems being protected.

What Cove protects

Layer3 uses Cove to provide backup and recovery across a range of business systems, including:

• Physical and virtual servers
  Protection for critical server workloads, including Hyper-V and VMware environments.
• Workstations
  Backup for important business data held on desktops and laptops where endpoint-level protection is required.
• Microsoft 365
  Independent backup of Microsoft 365 data, providing an additional recovery layer outside the production Microsoft environment.
• Files and business workloads
  Protection can include files and folders, system state, network shares, Microsoft SQL and other supported workloads.

Designed with ransomware in mind

Modern ransomware does not just target production systems. Attackers increasingly attempt to compromise backups as well.

Cove helps address this by keeping backup data encrypted, immutable and isolated from the production environment by default. This separation provides an important additional layer of resilience if the primary network or systems are compromised.

Efficient cloud-first backup

Cove uses small incremental backups to reduce the amount of data that needs to be transferred after the initial backup. This allows backup operations to run efficiently and supports more frequent recovery points without continually transferring full copies of data.

Backup storage is provided through N-able’s private cloud infrastructure, with regional storage options available to support data residency requirements.
